How can I trade my regular Nintendo Switch for a Switch OLED? Should I?
So you've got an original Switch, and you're thinking about trading it in to upgrade to the Switch OLED.
Can you? Absolutely (and Tiptop can help! More on that later.)
Should you? That depends, but probably.
Here's what it really boils down to: do you use your Switch as a portable device — even occasionally?
If so, the upgrade is almost certainly worth it. With its bigger/brighter screen, the OLED switch is just a markedly better experience crammed into an otherwise nearly identical package.
Here's what you get in upgrading to the Switch OLED:
- A 7-inch OLED screen (versus a 6.2-inch LCD screen)
- More built-in storage (64 GB vs 32 GB; this one isn't too big of a deal as you can easily add storage to any Switch via microSD, but it's still nice.)
- A much better, more stable kickstand for placing the Switch display on a table while you game
- An Ethernet port on the dock for faster Internet connectivity (you can add this to the original Switch and Switch Lite, but it requires a USB adapter.)
If you only use your Switch at home in a dock, the difference won't be as noticeable; that Ethernet port is nice, but modern wireless speeds are sufficient for most people.
